Compared to last week: best test on yearling steers 850 to 899 lbs mostly steady, 900 to 950 lbs steady to 3.00 higher. Yearling heifers not well compared. A full house for the 42nd Anniversary Sale. A large offering of yearlings, mostly strings and loads, was met with good to very good demand. Flesh condition varied with cattle coming both off grass and out of yards. Quite a bit of quality variation also as producers clean up their yearlings for the season. First offering of spring calves for the season met with moderate to good demand with load lots seeing the best demand. Most of the calves had full preconditioning with all coming off the cow. Lots of green, light fleshed calves on offer but also some calves in moderate plus flesh that had seen some creep feed. An active market on yearlings, moderate on calves. Another day of losses on the board today. Quite a bit of uncertainty in the markets right now, especially on calves. Harvest is progressing but is still quite a way from finished and outlets for unweaned calves are somewhat limited. Next feeder cattle sale is Friday, October 27.
