Compared to two weeks ago: lighter weight steers were steady to 10.00 lower on limited comparisons, steers from 800 lbs to 949 lbs were 6.00 to 10.00 higher instances 15.00 higher: heifers were unevenly steady on limited comparisons. Very good demand for todays large run of feeder cattle and replacement heifers. An active market with order buyers competing with internet buyers. Flesh conditions ranged from light fleshed hay fed cattle to moderate fleshed coming out of a grow yard. Quality ranged from a few plain cattle to very attractive. Several strings of backgrounded cattle offered in multiple loads with plenty of part loads and packages available to make loads. More of the consigners offered packages as producers are selling anything that they don't have room for as much of the area remains dry and forage conditions are less than ideal. Some much needed rain today hopefully offers some relief. Algorithm traders continued their downward pounding of feeder cattle futures. Cattle on feed showed a few more placements than expected. look at the drought monitor map and you can see why. Next feeder sale will be Friday, June 5th, the 29th annual WLAC Anniversary sale.
