Compared to last week: Steers from 600 lbs to 899 lbs were mostly steady to 4.00 higher, instances of 8.00 higher: heifers from 550 lbs to 599 lbs were 6.00 to 8.00 lower, heifers from 600 lbs to 649 lbs were steady to 2.00 higher, other weight classes not well compared. Good demand for todays large offering of high quality feeder steers, feeder heifers and replacement heifers. Large crowd in attendance for todays sale with the usual crowd of order buyers, a few farmer feeders competing with internet buyers. Several strings of light fleshed, hay fed cattle that were fully vaccinated, long time weaned and displayed lots of eye appeal were will received and commanded lots of buyer attention. Flesh condition ranged from light fleshed hay fed cattle that were running out on pasture to moderate plus cattle coming out of a grow yard. Extreme cold weather this past week caused several cancellations. Buyers are wanting to own cattle, though most are paying more for feeder cattle than they would like, making for some high breakeven prices. Warmer weather arrived and is giving producers and livestock some relief from last weeks brutal cold. On feed report out today indicated fewer placements and fewer marketing of fat cattle than pre report expectations. Next feeder sale is scheduled for Friday, February 28, 2025.
