Compared to last Friday: Steer calves from 450 lbs to 499 lbs were 4.00 to 6.00 higher, 500 lbs to 599 lbs were 4.00 to 6.00 lower, 600 lbs to 649 lbs were 5.00 to 6.00 higher, Heifer calves from 400 lbs to 449 lbs were 4.00 to 8.00 higher, 450 lbs to 499 lbs were 2.00 to 4.00 lower, 500 lbs to 549 lbs were 4.00 to 6.00 higher, 750 lbs to 799 lbs were 6.00 to 8.00 higher. Large run of yearlings, up to 13 loads in one sort, offered buyers the opportunity to fill some empty pens. Active market for the yearlings today as buyer know the numbers will dwindle on into the fall. Most yearlings were off grass and light fleshed for condition. Calf market not as active as the yearlings but plenty of buying power in the seats and on the internet to procure todays offering. Calves were right off the cow, most had spring and fall vaccinations, light fleshed and were attractive for quality. Best demand for full loads and multiple loads, with black hide still the preferred color. A few calves caring some mud and tag diminished their attractiveness. Fall harvest is progressing along, parts of the area missed out on last weeks rain and remain extremely dry. Cattle on feed report today was not friendly to cattle producers as placements were 6 percent higher than one year ago. Next feeder sale will be a special black hided calf sale on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.
