Compared to last sale two weeks ago: Steers from 800lbs to 899lbs were steady to $4.00 lower, heifers from 800lbs to 949lbs were $2.00 to $4.00 lower with instances of $6.00 lower on the bigger heifers. Only comparisons available in the yearling market. The calf market had lower undertones on the limited caparisons. Several strings of yearlings coming off short grass pastures and many consignments of tested open replacement heifer were in town made up the bulk of todays sale. Most of the yearlings were light fleshed to a few in moderate flesh condition. With the internet buyers competing with the order buyers made for a fairly active market. Both live cattle and feeder cattle futures have experienced a significant drop in the last two weeks. Overall pasture conditions in the area remain in relatively short condition. Several consignments of spring calves in today's sale, a more moderate demand for the calves as many producers are not ready to receive non-weaned calves at this time. Politicians in D.C. are talking about doing something about the "big four packers". Packers have enjoyed recorded profits for over a year now, boxed beef has been at prices unheard of during this time. Will something good come from this investigation? Next sale will be in two weeks, September 24,202. It is the 73rd anniversary sale with free BBQ. Stay Safe and eat Beef.
