Compared to last week: Much larger offering this week making a meaningful price comparison difficult. Quality was outstanding. Good demand for these long strings of light fleshed yearlings offered in full loads and multiple load lots as well as for the loads and part loads of light fleshed fall calves. As the flesh condition was so attractive on these yearlings and calves the market was very active with many buyers on the seats actively bidding. The vast majority of the fall calves were weaned 45-60 days and have simply been turned out on grass leaving them in a very attractive flesh for the cattle feeder, the market was the most active on these cattle as there are simply more options to these cattle compared to a big yearling that has to go to a finshing yard. These fall calves will reach finished weights next spring, April Live Cattle closed at 116.55 versus the yearlings that are looking at a Dec contract at 109.47. CME Live and Feeder Cattle futures were around 2.00 lower today and cash fed cattle slipping lower again this week which is keeping a damper on the feeder cattle market, yet in spite of this negativity there were plenty of buyers eagerly bidding and filling their pens. Quite a few cancellations again this week as the heavy rains earlier have made it difficult to get cattle shipped to town. Next feeder cattle sale will be Jun 21, 2019 expecting 5,000-7,000 feeder cattle.
