Compared to last sale: Steer and heifer calves under 500 lbs. 3.00-8.00 higher. Steer calves 500-600 lbs. 4.00 lower. Heifer calves 500-600 lbs. 12.00 lower conservatively. Feeder steer 600-700 lbs. 18.00 lower in a light comparison, feeder steer over 700 lbs 5.00-10.00 higher. Feeder heifers 5.00-10.00 lower. Demand strong. Quality average, few attractive. Notably, calves with no shots or those that were weaned only 10-45 days took a hit today, due to temperature fluctuations and calf health beginning to falter. This morning started with strong momentum, but mid-morning saw the CME futures board take a precipitous drop, reportedly attributed to profit taking and softening fundamentals. Nonetheless, by mid-afternoon, after the board had closed, sales rebounded, boosting the market and leading to several record-breaking sales.
