Compared to last week yearling steers sold 1.00 to 3.00 higher. Not enough yearling heifers for an adequate market comparison. First supply of bawling calves in the fall run a market trend is not applicable. Demand was good to very good for yearlings with light to moderate demand for bawling calves and spring calving cows. Bulk of the spring calves had fall pre-condition shots and came to town several weeks earlier than normal due to the severe drought in the trade area. Friday's sale might be the last sizable run of true yearling cattle off summer grass in the area. Next week; Thursday Oct 1 special weigh-up auction and Friday, Oct 2nd will be a very large run of spring calves with early estimates near 6500 head.
