Compared to last week: Yearling steers and heifers were too lightly tested to develop any market trend. Demand for yearlings was mostly moderate to good on light offerings. Steer calves weighing less than 550 lbs sold mostly steady to 5.00 higher, 550-599 lbs steers sold unevenly steady from 3.00 lower to 3.00 higher, steers weighing over 600 lbs sold mostly 3.00 to 5.00 higher. Heifer calves weighing less than 500 lbs sold mostly 3.00-6.00 higher, 500 lbs and heavier sold steady to 4.00 higher, with the exception of 550-599 lbs heifers which sold 4.00-7.00 higher. Quality this week was average to attractive. A heavy offering of un-weaned calves was seen this week. This made comparisons difficult at times as most of last weeks offering was comprised of weaned calves. Demand started the day mostly moderate, however demand improved as the sale progressed. Lightweight calves under 550 lbs sold on good demand for both weaned and un-weaned calves. Higher CME prices over the last few days helped improve buyer demand especially on lightweight calves suitable to develop into yearlings. Market activity this week was mostly moderate to active. Weigh up cows sold on mostly moderate demand for moderate to heavy offerings. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady to 2.00 higher on boning and breaking cows. Lean cows sold mostly steady to firm. Feeding cows sold unevenly steady as differences in quality dictated prices. Thin cows saw increased demand from feeding buyers and sold mostly 1.00-3.00 higher this week. Slaughter bulls sold weak on a lower quality and lower yielding offering. Cows suitable to re-breed were too lightly tested to develop a full market trend however steady to higher undertones were noticed. Offerings were average to attractive.
