As filed

Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers were all scarcely tested this week thus no trend is available. Rain continues to keep receipts light as muddy conditions kept ranchers from bringing livestock to market. Demand was light and market activity was mostly slow. Weigh up cows comprised the majority of the offering this week. Cows sold on light to moderate demand for moderate offerings. Packers showed mostly light to moderate demand for slaughter cows this week. Weigh up conditions were mostly below average as many cows and bulls were pushing fill. Slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00 lower. The majority of the cow offering was destined for feed this week as packers joined feeding buyers in sending the majority of the cow offering to feed. Additional feeding buyers absorbed many of the lower quality cows that packers would have sent to harvest 2-3 weeks ago. These short term feeding cows fell in the in-between area between high quality feeding cows and slaughter cows. Overall, feeding cows sold mostly 2.00-3.00 lower. Slaughter bulls sold mostly steady to 2.00 lower. Packers continue to search for lean meat to grind and bulls offer packers a higher percent lean and yield compared to cows. Young age cows sold mostly 2.00-5.00 higher as stronger demand for re-breed cows and more buyer participation helped push these offerings higher.
