Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold mostly 5.00-15.00 higher. Demand was good for a run of mostly new crop calves with the majority coming in off the cow or short weaned and as long as they have been worked with a round of shots and the flesh conditions are right there is little to no discount. The demand for the light calves weighing 225-350 lbs seems as good as ever as some buyers attempt to keep the dollars per head down and it makes for an interesting sale with the heavier weight groups bringing in the low $3.00/cwt range and some of the light calves selling for near $8.00/cwt. Supply was moderate with a couple of consignments of cows to go back to the farm following the feeder sale. Slaughter cows sold steady to firm.
