Compared to last week steer calves sold 5.00 to 10.00 higher, heifer calves sold mostly steady. Yearlings not tested this week. The supply of feeders was moderate and closer to what most are accustomed to seeing this time of year much unlike the heavy offerings that have been seen for several months now. Demand was good to very good especially for the multiple high quality consignments of steer calves in the offering that checked all the boxes buyers' desire. The few unweaned, unvaccinated, or fescue haired type calves in the offering continue to see discounts proportional to perceived risk or lack of efficiency expected. There was still more cows than seasonally typical but again not near the numbers that have gone through the barn the last several weeks. Attitudes around the area were much improved this week as rains have fallen since the previous sale in the amount of several inches for most areas. The area still needs much more rain before drought worries and feed problems will be fade but seeing mud holes holding water sure is a welcomed sight. There was even some demand for replacements this week and some better quality cows found new homes which has a very rare occurrence lately. Slaughter cows sold steady to mostly 5.00 higher.
