Compared to last week, the majority of steers sold 3.00-7.00 higher with the most gain on the 650-675 lb weight range, however there were spots up to 10.00 higher on the 450-500 lb steers. A light test of the mid weight 550-625 lb steers sold steady. Heifers sold steady to 4.00 higher except those under 450 lbs up to 8.00 higher. Demand was good to very good and buyers were eager to buy cattle with grass growing for the grazers and fed cattle gaining a few dollars. Beef demand is excellent and cutout values are rising but packers are still raking in most of the profit despite the slight rise in the fed market. A large consignment of near 400 yearling steers highlighted the sale but several other quality consignments of a few yearlings and then mostly calves were offered as well. Supply was moderate. Slaughter cows and bulls sold mostly 2.00-4.00 higher but some of the higher dressing cows 5.00-7.00 higher.
