Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold mostly steady. A nice mix of yearlings and calves were offered but some of the cattle were carrying a bit more flesh than last week as new crop calves begin to make up a larger percentage of the offering. Demand was good for a moderate supply. The prospective planting report was released Wednesday and corn acres were slightly lower than expected sending corn futures sharply higher and feeder cattle modestly lower. Slaughter cows sold steady to 4.00 higher with the advance on lean and boning cows, bulls steady.
