Compared to last week, steers and heifers over 500 lbs traded steady to 4.00 higher with the advance on the steers and 400-500 lb calves sold 4.00-8.00 lower with concerns of how well those lighter weight cattle will perform in the heat. Demand was good to very good with quality cattle coming through the ring all day. Currently the fat cattle market is holding up better than most anticipated with the driving factor being excellent demand for beef. Cattle futures have had a positive week and buyers were active. Although west central Missouri has had more moisture than several areas, the hay crop is lighter than usual and the 90 degree weather has dried the ground quickly bringing some cattle to town earlier than usual. Supply was moderate to heavy. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady.
