Sponsored by Missouri Show-Me-Select Replacement Heifers, Inc., University of Missouri Extension, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, MU College of Veterinary Medicine, Missouri Livestock Market Association, Kirksville Livestock LLC, and Missouri Department of Agriculture.
All heifers in the sale have met minimum standards for reproductive soundness, pelvic size, body condition and weight. A strict immunization program has been followed including Brucellosis calf-hood vaccination and tested negative for BVD-PI. Heifers were bred to bulls meeting strict calving ease/birth weight EPDs. Projected calving dates were given with most heifers expected to calve from the end of January through March. All heifers were screened for blemishes, muscle, frame, body condition score (BCS) and disposition by a screening committee consisting of official graders from the Missouri Department of Agriculture and USDA, then sorted into lots according to calving dates and similar body types.
A large crowd was on hand to see the 223 heifers that sold in 64 lots. Many of the consignors were long time participants of the Show-Me-Select Heifer Program and the quality and condition of the offering was very good. Sale average for the 223 head was 1882.00 per head, which was 70.00 per head lower than the November 2020 sale, but with 88 more head in this years offering. AI heifers averaged 60.00 higher than natural service.
