Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady to 5.00 higher in a lightly tested market. Steer calves were 3.00-6.00 higher and heifer calves were steady to weak. Demand was good on a moderate supply. The quality of the offering was lower than last week with five and six weight calves making up most of the larger drafts. The Cattle on Feed Report, released Friday, had Inventories down 2 percent, Placements down 18 percent and Marketings down 9 percent. This biggest drop on record for Placements is attributed to the February winter weather and the decrease in imports from Mexico due to the New World Screwworm. Live and dress sales of Fat Cattle were sharply higher last week and set new records for the Weekly Weighted Average in the 5-Area Feeding Regions.
