Compared to the last well tested sale three weeks ago, feeder steers and heifers were 10.00-15.00 higher. Steer and heifer calves under 700 lbs. were 15.00-20.00 higher. Demand was very good on a moderate supply. Winter weather kept receipts light two weeks ago and closed the sale barn last week. Spring-like temperatures this week helped receipts to return to normal despite the muddy conditions. One stick-out draft was 60 head of 559 lb. heifers that brought 309.00/cwt. The Cattle on Feed Report released last week reported Inventories 1 percent lower, Placements 2 percent higher, which was lower than expected, and Marketing 1 percent higher. These neutral to slightly bullish numbers helped the cattle futures get traction and make some gains this week.
