Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls were 2.00/cwt. higher. Demand was good on a light supply. The top slaughter bull sold for 255.00/cwt. and the top slaughter cow sold for 194.00/cwt. On the replacement side the top bred cow sold for 4000.00/head with pairs not well tested. Due to the heat and humidity on Tuesday, ORS moved the feeder sale to Wednesday, prior to the Cow Sale. There were too few feeders to establish a trend, however undertones were steady to weak. The largest draft of feeder calves was 32 head of 501 lb. steers which sold for 445.00/cwt. The USDA's monthly Cattle on Feed Report was released Friday and reported Inventories were up 2.2 percent, Placements were down 3 percent and Marketings were down 2.7 percent. The USDA also released its Bi-Annual Cattle Inventory which had total cattle inventories up slightly.
