Compared to last week, slaughter cows were 2.00-3.00 higher and slaughter bulls were steady. Demand was good on a moderate supply of slaughter animals and a heavy supply of replacement animals. The top slaughter bull sold for 222.00/cwt. and the top slaughter cow sold for a barn record of 194.00/cwt. Taking a look at the replacement cattle, the top pair brought 4560.00 while the top bred cows sold for 3450.00/head. Much of the area is in a moderate drought which helped to contribute to the heavy volume of replacement cattle. The USDA's Cold Storage Report released Friday reported the total pounds of beef in freezers were down 1 percent from the previous month but up 1 percent from last year.
