Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last week, based on a lighter test, steers sold steady to weak and heifers sold steady to 3.00 higher. Supply and demand was moderate to light with the best demand for 550-650 lb heifers. Wednesday's limit up move for feeder cattle sure didn't hurt, but it will take quite a little more than that to regain enough confidence for buyers to push prices higher. Also, uncertainty in the corn market will continue to play a role moving forward. Hairy, fleshy or un-weaned cattle are seeing noticeable discounts as those kind generally under perform in the heat. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady but the high dressing fat cows didn't reach the top end prices from last week.
