Compared to the last reported sale two weeks ago, few true comparisons of type and kind could be made but steers and heifers sold with a higher undertone. The best test was 400-550 lb heifers trading 4.00-10.00 higher. Several strings of yearlings were offered and most came through the ring with impressive weigh ups after this years tough winter. Demand was good and trade was active for both the quality un-weaned calves and yearlings and buyers were aggressive to acquire cattle. However, demand was light to moderate for un-weaned or short weaned heifer calves under 400 lbs. Supply was moderate to heavy. Slaughter cows sold 5.00-10.00 higher than the sharply lower market two weeks ago to regain the loss. Things have really dried out the last several day and a few planters have been rolling but most will wait until after the cold front moves out next week.
