Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold steady to 5.00 higher with the advance on yearlings and 400-450 lb steers. Some of the impressive top prices paid were late in the day for the "right kind" as buyers finished up loads. Heifers weighing 500-600 lbs were the exception trading 5.00 lower. Some large price differences were seen depending upon quality and condition within the same weight ranges as a mix of both weaned and un-weaned calves were offered along with several thin yearlings. Demand was uneven from moderate to very good, best for 400-500 lb steers and yearlings, lightest for 500-600 lb heifers carrying flesh. Supply was heavy. Cattle futures have traded sideways for several days, and there hasn't been much news to sway the market one way or the other. There was around 400 slaughter cows and bulls, however due to the heavy supply of feeders that market was not reported this week.
