Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last Tuesday, feeder steers 5.00-15.00 lower with best demand on high quality weaned steers near 475 lbs. Feeder heifers under 450 lbs steady to 5.00 higher, over 450 lbs 5.00-10.00 lower. Slaughter cows steady. Demand moderate. Supply moderate. Several consignments of very good quality, mostly weaned calves this week. Administration talk of increasing beef imports spooked the market sending feeder futures sharply lower with a reaction similar to what we saw last fall and making buyers more cautious than we've seen for a while. Meanwhile very tight numbers have helped push fed cattle to all-time highs although there is some concern that gas prices may be holding back beef cutout values.
