Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last Tuesday, feeder steers and heifers 4.00-8.00 lower on a limited market test. Slaughter cows firm to 2.00 higher. Light receipts following yesterdays much needed widespread rain. Cattle futures had a rough day with feeder contracts seeing big losses Tuesday. Hopefully the sell-off was related to the reports of avian flu in some older dairy cows which doesn't appear to be much of a factor for the cattle longer term. However the downturn may be more technical as cattle futures were already trending lower in recent days. Time will tell.
