Compared to the last tested auction, feeder steers and heifers traded near steady with the market from three weeks ago. The offering consisted of several strings of light weight yearlings weighing 650-750 lbs, as well as a good run of new crop calves. Quality was attractive although some of the calves were carrying more flesh than is desired for this time of year. Some cattle producers continue to be amazed by the strength of the market considering eight dollar plus corn prices and the large number of cattle that USDA says is currently in the feedyards.
