Compared to last week, steer calves weighing 400-450 lbs sold with a firm to higher undertone on last week's light offering, with 450-500 lbs steer calves trading 15.00-35.00 higher, spots 40.00 higher and 500-650 lbs steers sold firm to 10.00 higher with the most advance on the 5 weights, 650-700 lb steers sold 10.00-20.00 higher, a much larger offering of 700-750 lb steers sold with a firm to higher undertone on comparable weights, with over 800 lbs selling steady to firm. Heifer calves 400-450 lbs sold steady to firm, with 450-500 lbs selling 10.00-15.00 higher, 500-550 lbs heifers sold 10.00-20.00 higher with 550-600 lbs trading steady to firm, 600-650 lbs sold firm to 15.00 higher and over 650 lbs were lightly tested. Demand was good on a heavy offering with overall quality very good on the calves and yearlings. Backgrounders are not hiding their desire to own feeders especially for grazing and to sell later as demand for these feeders is very good. Last weeks fed cattle market also hit the highs as trade in the Southern Plains was from 242.00-to mostly 245.00. Slaughter cows sold fully steady to firm.
