Northern Livestock video auction held the Annual Early Fall Preview over the last two days. Demand was good to very good for heavy offerings. Both spring born calves and yearlings sold on good to very good demand. Light weight calves sold with the best demand this sale as buyers looked to buy cattle suitable to develop into yearlings. These offerings were higher in quality overall compared to last sale and buyers showed very good demand for these offerings as a result. Demand for calves was slightly lower on day two as corn futures traded sharply higher. Demand for replacement heifers was very good and these offerings sold sharply higher than last sale, with several sets of heifers outselling their steer mates. Replacement heifer quality was very attractive this sale. Weaned cattle were left untagged. Most of these offerings sold in November and December. Buyers were willing to give a slight premium for weaned offerings this sale. The premium between weaned and un-weaned calves was mostly 8.00-10.00 cwt. The percentage of PO's was very light again this sale. Very good demand was seen for Value Added cattle that were 3rd party verified. Cattle tagged as Value added were enrolled in two or more programs and had to be verified by a 3rd party. The largest premiums given were for cattle sold as All Natural, NHTC and GAP combined. Market activity was active to very active.
