Northern Livestock video auction held their Annual Summertime classic over the last three days. Demand was good to very good for heavy offerings. Fall delivered calves sold on mostly good to very good demand, while yearling offerings sold on mostly very good demand. With 125,000 head of cattle in the offering buyers consistently returned day after day to buy this years calf and yearling crop. Prices were very consistent throughout the three day sale. Demand for late delivered light weight calves was very good as buyers saw the price yearlings were bringing this year and purchased these offerings in preparation for next summer. Weaned cattle were left untagged. Most of these offerings sold in November and December. Notably, weaned offerings sold with little to no premium this year. Demand for heifers to purchase as replacements was very good as some sets of heifers out sold their steer mates. The percentage of POs was very small this year as prices climbed sharply from last summers values. Only 1.2% of the three day sale was PO'ed. Very good demand was seen for Value Added cattle that were 3rd party verified. Cattle tagged as Value added were enrolled in two or more programs and had to be verified by a 3rd party. The largest premiums given were for cattle sold as All Natural, NHTC and GAP combined. Market activity was very active throughout the three day sale.
