Northern Livestock video auction held their annual summer video auction over the last 3 days. Nearly 140,000 head sold over the 3 day sale. Demand for calves was mostly moderate to good, while demand for yearlings was mostly good. The best demand for calves was for big heavy weight cattle coming early in the fall or light calves late in the fall suitable to develop into yearlings. Yearling demand was good through out the sale. Buyers did show slight resistance for immediate delivery cattle which would take extra feed to get to their desired weight. Very few POs were seen this sale as prices were sharply higher than the same sale last year. Drought conditions are being experienced across much of the Inner Mountain west. As a result many cattle are being market weeks earlier than usual and most were represented to come very green. Many sets of calves had very large delivery windows as ranchers wait to see how long forage is available. Premiums for NHTC and All Natural were not as strong this sale for calves, however strong premiums continue to be seen for yearlings. Many ranches advertised that they were "able to tag to deliver to Canada at buyers expense". Many sets of cattle were purchased to export this sale. All cattle tagged as Value Added were 3rd party verified and were enrolled in more than one program. Calves weaned longer than 45 days were left untagged.
