Compared to last week: Limited test of yearling feeder steers and heifers 15.00 to 20.00 lower. Moderate demand for yearlings as the CME cattle futures complex has lost considerable ground over the last two weeks and cash fat cattle lower as well. The bullish outlook that cattle feeders had is changing quickly. Cash fed cattle down to 230.00, most outgoing cattle needed 250.00 to breakeven, and Live Cattle futures for the winter months in the 220s has caused cattle feeders to pull back in their pursuit of feeder cattle. The drought continues to grip much of the state, causing some producers to adjust their carrying numbers already. Very hot weather this week made it dangerous to move cattle without overheating, causing late week auction markets to cancel their sales.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
