Compared to last week: Steer and heifer calves steady to 5.00 higher, instances to 8.00 higher on 400-450 lbs steers. Yearling feeder steers and heifers unevenly steady. Very good demand for steer and heifer calves as the fall run gets underway, farmer feeders have a good start on their corn harvest and are ready to buy these high quality calves from Western South Dakota while they are available. Good demand remains for yearlings, supply is tightening as it's time for yearlings to be pulled off grass. Very large calf runs are on the books for West River SD livestock auctions, dry conditions are pushing some cattle to town a bit earlier. Cattle feeders have turned bullish again as cash fed cattle push back up into the high 180s and the Live Cattle futures headed back up to meet the cash. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 lower, bulls not well compared.
