South Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary

USDA Livestock, Poultry & Grain Market News · Federal-State Market News Service, Sioux Falls, SD (LS-SF)
Feeder CattleReceipts 10,150Last week 2,298Year ago 8,189
Slaughter CattleReceipts 1,040Last week 0Year ago 1,117

Compared to last week: Much larger offering of feeder steers and heifers, higher undertones evident. Very good demand remains for feeder cattle, irrespective of weakness seen in the futures complex. Cattle feeders are fully aware of how limited slaughter cattle supplies are, and how the market is moving counter-seasonally, this is causing cattle feeders to be filled with a great amount of optimism. Cash fed cattle traded at 198.00 this week, 16.00 over the spot month of Aug Live Cattle. Grazing conditions are remaining adequate allowing cattle producers to keep cattle turned out and not having to pull cattle early. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 higher, lean cows 2.00 lower, bulls steady to 1.00 higher.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
