Compared to last week: Feeder steers 10.00 to 20.00 higher, except over 1000 lbs 2.00 to 3.00 higher. Feeder heifers under 800 lbs 10.00 to 20.00 higher, over 800 lbs 6.00 to 10.00 higher. Demand was very good this week, for all weights of steers and heifers, as the cash fed cattle market shot back up in to the 180's again. The Live Cattle futures finally rallied, but kept a large negative basis to the northern plains cash market, which really helped to build enthusiasm amongst cattle producers. Special BBQ feeder cattle sales are going on this week and next, where long strings of yearlings are offered and the seats are packed, as cattle feeders know they might not get the chance to buy full loads, or multiple loads to full their pens. The rains came west of the Missouri river, giving a nice start to the grazing sesaon, yet the southeast corner of the state is in need of more rain. Corn is rapidly growing as the temps have been warm and the humidity on the rise, spotty rains over the weekend, but looking good overall in South Dakota. Slaughter cows 5.00 to 8.00 higher, except Lean cows steady. Bulls 3.00 to 4.00 higher.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
