Compared to last week: Feeder steers steady to 3.00 higher, heifers 2.00 to 3.00 lower. Very good demand for yearling steers and heifers. New crop calves are starting to appear on consignment lists at the auctions and are met with plenty of demand. Cattle feeders are quick to act when yearlings are offered, as the months when these cattle will reach finished weights are projected, by the futures market, to be many dollars higher than the current month. Cost of gain is a major concern, however, as new crop corn is now around 6.75 which is over a dollar higher from where those months were earlier in the summer. Cash fed cattle around 145.00 this week, roughly par the October futures. Slaughter cows 1.00 to 3.00 lower, bulls 3.00 lower.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
