Compared to last week: Feeder steers mostly steady, heifers 2.00 to 4.00 lower. Very good demand for all weights of feeder cattle as the cash fed cattle market continues to hold in the 145.00 range and the Live Cattle futures moving higher as well. The normal summer slump for fed cattle didn't materialize this year, giving cattle producers much hope for the fall and winter fat markets, where traditionally market ready supplies are tighter. The supply of yearlings is much more limited this year, which has really kept a fire lit under the feeder cattle market as cattle feeders greatly prefer to feed a yearling vs. a calf. Cow-calf producers haven't had to pull calves off early and sell, as they did last year, but we are just a couple weeks away from the fall marketing season beginning. Slaughter cows steady, bulls 3.00 to 4.00 lower.
