Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 1000 lbs 3.00 to 5.00 higher, over 1000 lbs 6.00 to 10.00 higher. Feeder heifers steady to 5.00 higher. Very good demand for this much lighter offering of feeder cattle across the state of South Dakota this week. Fewer cattle offered for sale in the auctions, especially so compared to last year's drought induced early sell off grass. The cash fed cattle market topped at 150.00 in the north this week, much higher than the southern plains. This is infusing a great amount of optimism into the minds' of cattle feeders as the cash trade is so much higher than the current spot month on the futures. Cattle feeders were quick to act when there were strings of yearlings offered at the auctions, as auction receipts are more sporadic during these summer months. Slaughter cows steady to 3.00 higher, bulls 2.00 lower.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
