Compared to last week: Feeder steers mostly 4.00 to 8.00 lower, heifers mostly 2.00 to 5.00 lower. Good demand remains for light fleshed cattle to run on grass as yearlings as turnout time is now upon us as the grass is green in growing, more moderate demand on cattle bound for finishing yards. The feeder cattle market was under pressure this week as the cash fed cattle trade softened and traded lower, Live Cattle futures continued to decline, and Feeder Cattle contracts moved lower still. Flesh condition is a very important factor in determining the value of feeder cattle, and it's only amplified even more in year's where costs of gain are high. Cattle feeders are willing to chase the market on light fleshed cattle when they are available, and are highly critical of cattle carrying a heavy amount. The cash fed cattle market is dollars ahead of the current spot month of June, nearly 12.00, leaving cattle feeders unsure of where the market is headed and where it will converge with the futures. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 lower, bulls 2.00 to 3.00 lower.
