Slaughter CattleReceipts 1,070Last week 982Year ago 1,002

Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 750 lbs steady to 3.00 higher, over 750 lbs 5.00 to 10.00 lower. Feeder heifers under 850 lbs 2.00 to 6.00 lower, over 850 lbs steady to 2.00 lower. Demand was more moderate as the feeder cattle market was under pressure as cattle futures posted losses and corn contracts up 25 cents. The cash fed cattle market moved higher, up to 147.00-148.00, but with the losses in the futures cattle feeders are wary of buying feeder cattle too high. Good rains finally came to areas of the state, which improved the outlook for a full grazing season, and a hay crop greatly, but some areas West River are still waiting for spring rain. There is now the necessary moisture needed to get a crop started, East River, as well but costs of gain continue to loom large over the feeder cattle market. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 higher, bulls not well tested for comparison.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
