Compared to last week: Steer calves under 550 lbs 5.00 to 6.00 lower, except 450-500 lbs 5.00 higher, over 550 lbs steady to 1.00 higher. Heifer calves under 400 lbs 2.00 lower, over 400 lbs unevenly steady. Yearling feeder steers under 950 lbs steady, over 950 lbs 3.00 to 6.00 higher. Yearling heifers 1.00 to 3.00 higher, instances to 8.00 higher on 1000-1050 lbs. Good demand for this extremely large calf offering. As the supply is so heavy buyers are able to be more selective and not have to chase the market to get some calves bought. Truck availability was a definite issue this week as many buyers reported they would only buy as many loads as they had a truck spoken for to haul each specific load. Cattle producers continue to market their calves, trying to get them out before another winter storm comes and greens them up further. The lighter end of the calves, especially those from the most western part of the state were showing the effects from the winter storm that struck out there earlier in October. The grass is dry and gone and supplemental feed is needed to keep those cattle from going backwards in weight. Very good demand for yearlings as there were some strings offered and plenty of buyers are wanting more yearlings to place on feed. Slaughter cows were uneven, Breaker and Boner cows 1.00 to 2.00 higher, Lean cows 1.00 lower, bulls not well tested.
