Feeder CattleReceipts 12,799Last week 12,031Year ago 22,673
Slaughter CattleReceipts 1,312Last week 887Year ago 1,994

Compared to last week: Steer calves 5.00 to 10.00 lower, heifer calves 10.00 to 15.00 lower. Yearling feeder steers steady to 1.00 lower, yearling heifers 2.00 to 5.00 lower. Good demand again for spring born calves but the sense of urgency that has been displayed by cattle feeders in recent weeks to get calves bought has lessened. There were more strings of high quality, light fleshed calves, many offered in full loads, but the weakness of the futures contracts and the fact that cattle feeders are again struggling to get bids for their finished cattle are all taking a toll on the calf market. Demand for yearlings remains good as the supply of grass yearlings is just about exhausted and there is always lots of competition to get these cattle bought. Slaughter cows steady to 1.00 higher, bulls steady.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
