Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 800 lbs 10.00 to 15.00 higher, over 800 lbs 2.00 to 5.00 higher. Feeder heifers 2.00 to 5.00 higher, except 750-900 lbs 6.00 to 10.00 higher. Very good demand for yearling steers and heifers. There were long strings of yearlings offered right of grass in a very light and desirable flesh condition this week and the buyers were on the seats and bidding fiercely to get these green cattle bought. Drought conditions still are very severe across the state, yet there was rain last week but not all areas received it. Cattle are being pulled from grass much earlier, and lighter, than normal but the feeder market has spiked up which is helping these producers greatly. Cash fed cattle market remains disappointing, but with the winter and spring months of the CME Live Cattle board nearing 140.00 that fact alone has done much for creating an intensity amongst cattle feeders to want to have cattle ready for that time frame. Feed cost are much higher this year but that has not slowed the feeder cattle market. July rains fell in many corn producing areas of the state that desperately needed it, giving hope that there will be a crop to harvest. A record corn yield is projected across the nation, 181 bushels to the acre, as other states have had nearly ideal growing conditions. Slaughter cows and bulls steady to 2.00 higher.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
