Compared to last week: Feeder steers 2.00 to 6.00 higher, except 650-750 lbs steady. Feeder heifers under 600 lbs 4.00 to 6.00 higher, over 600 lbs 2.00 to 3.00 higher. Very good demand for feeder cattle this week, as the cash fed cattle market broke loose and topped at 125.00 cattle feeders and backgrounders were feeling much better about their chances of profitability in the coming months. Large receipts for this time of year as many producers held their cattle longer than usual, also still seeing some replacement heifers coming to town that normally would not as producers from the worst of the drought areas are having to adjust their numbers. Rain was more widespread East River as many areas received over 1.5 inches but West River was spotty as many areas have yet to receive spring moisture. Fires broke out last week as the country is so dry and the winds were very high. Calving season is in full swing and the weather has made it much easier for cattle producers to help calves alive and healthy. Slaughter cows 1.00 to 2.00 higher, bulls 2.00 to 3.00 higher.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
