Compared to two weeks ago: Feeder steers under 700 lbs 3.00 to 5.00 lower, over 700 lbs 2.00 to 4.00 higher, feeder heifers unevenly steady except over 900 lbs 2.00 to 3.00 higher. Moderate to good demand for calves, very good demand for yearlings. The tough winter storm last week brought more unwanted moisture to the area, temps warmed up and frost came back out of the ground making feedyard pens muddy again, this put some pressure on the calf market but did not affect the yearling market as the supply is much tighter. More farmer feeders have entered the marketplace and are now ready to buy calves, which has helped greatly. More and more calves are weaned now which is helping to support the market. With the cash fed cattle market flirting with 120.00 and Feb and Apr CME Live Cattle contracts around 125.00 cattle feeders are feeling more bullish about the fed cattle market in the coming months. Slaughter cows steady to 3.00 higher, bulls not well compared. Much larger receipts expected next week as last week's storm did cause some early week consignments to cancel.
