Compared to last week: Feeder steers and steer calves 1.00-7.00 lower except 500-550lbs 10.00 higher which made 5 weight steers average 5.00/lb for the first time ever. Feeder heifer 1.00-5.00 higher. Heifer calves over 500lbs 2.00-5.00 lower, under 500lbs 3.00-8.00 higher. Slaughter cows 1.00-3.00 lower. Slaughter bulls 2.00 lower. This week's sales were difficult to predict, with prices showing mixed direction. Buyers appeared more cautious with their dollars, which likely contributed to heifers trading higher while most steers moved lower. It was noted that some calf and stocker buyers were at cow sales this week, buying older bred cows and open cows to return to feed or wheat. Buyers appear to be chasing the elusive hole in the market, but it seems there may not be one at this time.
