Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers 3.00-8.00 higher. Demand very good for feeder cattle. Steer calves steady, except under 400 lbs 10.00-15.00 higher. Heifer calves unevenly steady. Demand remains good for calves despite warmer temperatures. Heavy rains late spring and into the summer has kept pastures green and fueled the demand for all calves. Continued short numbers of feeder cattle at all sale barns is helping to boost demand despite how the cattle futures trade. Cattle futures traded mostly higher this week but gave a chunk of it back on Thursday. Slaughter cows sold steady to 3.00 higher. Slaughter bulls 2.00 higher. Packer buyers continue to compete with feeder buyers for numbers.
