Compared to last week flyweight steers sold sharply higher, with all other weights trading 6.00 to 12.00 higher. Flyweight heifers sold 10.00 higher, 500 to 800 lbs sold 7.00 to 12.00 higher and over 800 lbs sold steady on a thin test. Demand was very good for a rather large offering of calves and feeders for the first full week of the new year. Receipts would have been a little higher had Tri-State auction at McCook hadn't cancelled due to winter weather conditions. With the feeder cattle market very strong right now, many producers are pulling cattle ahead of their normal marketing time. Some cattlemen are flipping previous purchases and making a pretty good profit on calves they weaned last year and reselling now. One would think calf and feeders would be getting tight across the state when the month flips to February and March for auction numbers. Record prices prevail on feedlot cash trades with dressed sales hitting the 320.00 mark and live sales at 203.00.
