Compared to last week steers less than 500 lbs sold steady, 5 weight sold 10.00 lower, 6 weights sold steady, 7weights sold 13.00 lower and 8 weight steers 7.00 lower. On the heifers less than 600 lbs sold 15.00 lower, over 600 lbs sold 2.00 to 7.00 lower. Demand for calves and feeders was moderate to good. Very good demand was noted for bred cows and pairs. Package of first calf heifer pairs sold for 4550.00 per unit last Friday at Burwell Livestock market. With springtime grass popping up and low cattle numbers, some ranchers are backfilling empty grass with pairs if they can find them. Feedlot trade fell off like the CME cattle boards with live sales from 184.00 to 185.00, 2.00 to 3.00 lower. Dressed sales sold from 290.00-295.00, 2.00 to 3.00 lower also. Farming is getting underway with some areas in the East planting corn and soybeans and that farming trend is moving west through the state.
