Compared to last week steers under 600 lbs sold 10.00 higher, 600 to 800 lbs sold 4.00 to 5.00 higher over 800 lbs sold 7.00 to 9.00 higher. Heifers under 500 lbs sold 8.00 higher, 500 to 700 lbs sold steady and over 700 lbs sold 5.00 to 7.00 higher. Bred cows sold steady and cow/calf pairs sold 300.00 per pair higher. Demand was good to very good for calves and feeder cattle with good demand for pairs. Some of the pairs were headed out of state. Possession is the name of the game right now for cattle going to grass or to the feedlot. Record breaking feedlot trade this week with live sales from 172.00 to 178.00 and dressed sales from 275.00 to 280.00. Some packers know choice grading cattle are in short supply right now and in the future, so they been buying some negotiated cash cattle for more than 14 days of delivery. Bulk of the state remains in Severe and Extreme drought per the US monitor. Also, the last few days the bulk of the state has been in a red flag and fire watch as gusty winds and the dry conditions prevail. Some areas of the state had over 60" of snow this winter and those areas are still dry!
