Compared to last week steers sold 2.00 to 4.00 higher. Heifers sold under 700 lbs sold 6.00 to 7.00 higher, over 700 lbs sold 4.00 to 6.00 higher. Demand was good to very good for all classes of cattle. Wide range of flesh condition scores across the weekly sales. Several top quality, officially calfhood vaccinated (OCV) heifers going back to the country for replacements was noted on this weeks report. Cattlemen or cattlewomen are optimistic that mother nature will give moisture as we head into spring for forages to sprout and grow. Overall, most of the state is abnormally dry with pockets reported as moderately dry. The lack of winter moisture is ok, as livestock owners can save hay piles for use down the road. Packers paid more for feedlot show list, as dressed sales bounced 4.00 higher at 222.00 and live sales went 2.00 to 3.00 higher at 138.00-140.00. Annual cattle inventory was released from NASS on Monday showing 30.1 mil beef cows in the USA down 2% on Jan 1, 2022. USA calf crop was estimated at 35.1 mil head down 1% from 2020.
